In-memory database VoltDB, reported that their New SQL in-memory database can provide almost five times faster application performance for Fast Data analysis on IBM’s Softlayer cloud platform than on Amazon Web Services.
Scott Jarr, co-founder and chief strategy officer, VoltDB, said, “The recent entry of so many tools addressing Fast Data speaks clearly to the processing problems data-driven businesses face. Solutions like Google’s Dataflow and Amazon’s Kinesis provide some limited capability, but the true value of Fast Data can only be tapped when interaction with each event is informed by historical data and greater context. Stream processing does not allow for this–VoltDB on SoftLayer does.”
The relational database is architected to meet the distinct requirements of Fast Data which leads to Big Data. Organizations in markets such as mobile, financial services, energy, advertising, security and gaming are relying on VoltDB to process smart data fast to capture new revenue opportunities, drive competitive advantage and create highly specialized interactions. VoltDB is privately held with offices in Bedford, Mass. and Santa Clara, Calif.
“IBM is rapidly moving to make SoftLayer the preeminent platform on the planet for developing data-driven applications,” said Mac Devine, director of CloudFirst Innovation and CTO IBM Cloud Services Division. “Fast Data applications demand a leading-edge cloud platform that supports wide-ranging options from multi-tenant virtualisation to bare metal performance.”
This is particularly beneficial to organisations as they are able to obtain intel and carry out analytics on volumes of fast moving data to make real-time automated decisions thus giving rise to competitive edge with intelligent and efficient applications.
