WhatsApp to bring multi-account support to iOS

For years, iPhone users have had to rely on workarounds like downloading the WhatsApp Business app or using dual SIM capabilities to manage multiple accounts

If you’re an iPhone user juggling multiple WhatsApp accounts, relief might be on the way. WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that will allow users to add and manage multiple accounts within a single app, a functionality Android users have enjoyed since 2023. The feature, currently under development, was spotted in the latest iOS beta update (version 25.2.10.70) and could soon make life easier for those who rely on WhatsApp for both personal and professional communication.

What’s changing for iPhone users?

For years, iPhone users have had to rely on workarounds like downloading the WhatsApp Business app or using dual SIM capabilities to manage multiple accounts. But the upcoming update promises to streamline this process. According to WABetaInfo, a trusted source for WhatsApp updates, the new feature will eliminate the need for multiple devices or parallel apps. Instead, users will be able to add additional accounts directly through the app settings, making it easier than ever to switch between profiles.

How will multi-account support work?

WhatsApp is exploring two methods for adding new accounts. The first involves setting up the device as a primary account, essentially starting fresh. The second option allows users to scan a QR code to link an existing account as a companion. This flexibility caters to different user needs, whether you’re creating a new account or linking an old one. Once set up, each account will operate independently, with distinct notifications, chats, backups, and settings.

Why is this a big deal?

For many, the ability to manage multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single device is a game-changer. Whether you’re separating work and personal communications, managing multiple businesses, or maintaining different personas for various social circles, this feature offers a level of convenience that was previously unavailable to iPhone users. It also benefits those with dual SIM devices, allowing them to use both numbers within the primary app without needing to switch between WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.

When can we expect the update?

While the feature is still under development and not yet available to beta testers, its inclusion in the latest iOS beta suggests that a rollout could be imminent. WhatsApp has already implemented multi-account support on Android, so it’s likely that the company is working to ensure a consistent experience across both platforms. However, as with most beta features, it may take a few months before it becomes available to all users worldwide.

In the meantime, iPhone users can look forward to a more streamlined way of managing their WhatsApp accounts. No more jumping between apps or carrying multiple devices—just seamless switching within a single app. And with notifications, chats, and settings remaining distinct for each account, users can enjoy the convenience of multi-account support without sacrificing organization or privacy.

As WhatsApp continues to refine this feature, one thing is clear: the days of juggling multiple apps or devices for different accounts are numbered. For iPhone users, that’s a change worth waiting for.
