WhatsApp is set to launch a paid subscription service called ‘WhatsApp Plus,’ which is currently live in the Android beta for select testers. The subscription is priced at approximately $2.99 per month.
Meta is targeting subscription revenue from its extensive user base, of which WhatsApp is a key part. Earlier this year, reports indicated that platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were preparing to introduce paid subscription tiers, with tests for an Instagram tier conducted last month.
According to WABetaInfo, premium features associated with WhatsApp Plus include the ability to send premium stickers, change the app’s theme, choose a custom app icon, pin additional chats, access premium ringtones, and upgrade chat lists. A European user indicated a local price of €2.49 per month for the subscription.
This rollout remains in a testing phase, with expectations for a wider release across iOS, Mac, and other platforms. No official date for a full launch has been announced.
