WhatsApp has launched a noise cancellation feature for beta users on Android version 2.26.14.1. This feature aims to minimize unwanted background noise during video and audio calls, enhancing overall call clarity.
The noise cancellation operates in real time without distorting the speaker’s voice. While Meta has not provided a timeline for a broader release, the feature is expected to benefit users in noisy environments, particularly those who travel frequently.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature currently filters out background sounds such as traffic and wind. A screenshot indicates that the noise cancellation option is located in the calling menu and is enabled by default when a call begins, although users can disable it if desired.
The functionality of the noise cancellation is limited; if only one participant activates it, only their voice will be clearer to the other party. Incoming audio quality will not improve unless both users have the feature enabled.
Meta is also releasing additional features for WhatsApp, including a dedicated app for Apple CarPlay currently in beta via TestFlight. The platform now allows users to manage storage by manually locating and deleting large files within chats and supports using two accounts on iOS devices.
WhatsApp is likely to make the noise cancellation feature available to all users in the coming weeks, following its initial appearance in the beta app version 2.26.11.8 earlier this year.
