Blue Origin announced TeraWave, a new satellite internet network providing up to 6 Tbps data speeds for enterprise, data center, and government clients.

The TeraWave constellation will comprise 5,280 satellites in low-Earth orbit and 128 in medium-Earth orbit, with initial deployments planned for late 2027.

Low-Earth orbit satellites will utilize RF connectivity for a maximum data transfer speed of 144 Gbps, while medium-Earth orbit satellites will employ an optical link to achieve the 6 Tbps speed. SpaceX’s Starlink currently offers a maximum of 400 Mbps, with future plans for 1 Gbps upgrades.

“TeraWave adds a space-based layer to your existing network infrastructure, providing connectivity to locations unreachable by traditional methods,” the network’s website states.

This announcement follows Amazon’s rebrand of its consumer-focused satellite network, Leo, which will eventually consist of approximately 3,000 low-Earth orbit satellites offering broadband speeds.

These networks could increase competition for SpaceX’s Starlink, which serves over 9 million customers across consumer, commercial, and government sectors. Blue Origin and Amazon indicated their networks serve distinct markets.

Blue Origin said, “We identified an unmet need with customers who were seeking enterprise-grade internet access with higher speeds, symmetrical upload/download speeds, more redundancy, and rapid scalability for their networks. TeraWave solves for these problems.”

Blue Origin, known for its New Shepard suborbital space tourism, has recently expanded its commercial space operations. In 2025, the company launched its New Glenn rocket twice. It also landed the booster stage on its second attempt and deployed its first commercial payload for NASA.

The company plans to send a robotic lander to the moon this year using its third New Glenn launch. With TeraWave, Blue Origin will add satellite manufacturing and operation to its services.
