In a recent development, HUB International Limited (“HUB”), a leading provider of insurance brokerage services, has disclosed a data privacy incident primarily impacting its U.S. operations. The company, renowned for its extensive range of insurance products and services, is taking swift and thorough measures to address the situation and safeguard the affected individuals.

HUB International Data Breach explained

On January 17, 2023, HUB detected unusual activity within its network systems, prompting an immediate response. The company’s cybersecurity team successfully isolated the compromised systems and launched an in-depth forensic investigation. The findings revealed unauthorized access to certain parts of the network, with unauthorized copying of files occurring between December 2022 and January 2023.

Upon this discovery, HUB undertook a comprehensive assessment of the compromised data, its contents, and the individuals potentially affected. Following this assessment, HUB initiated the notification process on July 27, 2023.

Although the investigation is ongoing about HUB International Data Breach, the initial review has established that the accessed data pertains to various groups, including current and former employees, individuals covered by HUB’s insurance policies, and those connected to insurance carriers and employers served by HUB.

The compromised data varies by individual and includes personal identifiers in HUB International Data Breach, such as

  • Names,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • Driver’s license numbers,
  • Passport numbers,
  • Financial account details,
  • Health insurance information,
  • Medical records.

  • Contact credit reporting bureaus: To initiate a fraud alert or credit freeze, reach out to the three major credit reporting bureaus: Equifax (1-888-298-0045), Experian (1-888-397-3742), and TransUnion (1-800-916-8800).
  • Seek additional information: To further educate yourself about identity theft, fraud alerts, credit freezes, and protective measures, consider reaching out to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-ID-THEFT (1-877-438-4338) or visiting www.identitytheft.gov.
  • File a complaint: If you suspect misuse of your information, file a complaint with the FTC and your state’s Attorney General.

HUB’s response and ongoing efforts

In addition to these internal measures, HUB collaborates closely with affected business partners to ensure timely notifications to potentially impacted individuals. Regulatory authorities and credit reporting agencies are also being notified in accordance with applicable regulations.
