Tel Aviv-based company, 3DFY.ai, has unveiled its latest innovation, the 3DFY Prompt, a cutting-edge generative AI tool that empowers developers and artists to effortlessly create intricate 3D models simply by providing textual prompts.

By democratizing the process of developing high-quality 3D models, 3DFY.ai revolutionizes the field, opening doors for creative individuals of all backgrounds to participate. This groundbreaking technology paves the way for a multitude of applications, spanning from immersive video games to product design and virtual reality experiences.

In the realm of 3D modeling, the process of creating high-quality models has historically been a time-consuming endeavor, requiring extensive expertise and assistance. Recent advancements in AI by tech giants such as Nvidia, Google, and OpenAI have promised to simplify this process, making it more accessible to a wider audience. However, 3DFY.ai, argues that these techniques inevitably compromise the quality of the generated assets, limiting their practical applications.

How does text-to-3D modeling work?

According to 3DFY.ai, for generative AI models to truly make an impact, they must demonstrate real-world usefulness instead of being mere passing trends. In response to this challenge, 3DFY has developed a text-to-3D technology that stands as the first scalable AI-based solution capable of producing 3D models on par with those crafted by skilled human 3D modelers.

This achievement in professional model quality, however, comes with a trade-off.

The approach employed by 3DFY entails a category-bound methodology, which means that the generation process is confined to predefined classes, restricting the scope of its application to specific instances within these limits.

However, the limitations imposed by the category-bound approach are expected to fade away rapidly as the range of accessible categories continues to expand. This evolution promises to deliver awe-inspiring 3D models that are meticulously organized into logically comprehensible components. These models boast professional-grade mesh topology, ensuring structural integrity, and are enhanced with visually realistic physically based rendering textures, available in any desired resolution.

Notably, the substantial volumes of training data utilized to train 3DFY.ai’s AI models are entirely synthetic in nature. The company employs top-end computer graphics techniques to develop this data in-house. By avoiding reliance on real-world data sources, 3DFY.ai establishes itself as an ethical provider of AI solutions, assuring users of the integrity and responsible use of its technology.

Ethical AI: AstraZeneca’s guidelines on applicable regulations

Eliran Dahan, CEO of 3DFY, expressed in an official statement:

“With 3DFY Prompt, 3D creation can now be available to everyone, regardless of budget or experience, in ways that enable self-expression and save time, money and manual work for creators and without having to worry about possible copyright issues. We’re already working on additional object categories and new, unique functionality. Our overarching vision is to make 3D authoring as fun and easy as playing an online game. We want everyone to be empowered to create 3D content.”

How to use 3DFY Prompt to generate 3D models?

3DFY.ai has officially made the beta version of 3DFY Prompt accessible for testing:

  • First, go to the following URL: https://app.3dfy.ai/
  • Next, sign in with your Google or Apple account.
  • Then, verify your email.
  • After signing in, you’ll need to choose a category.

You can either choose “Interiors” or “Gaming” categories for now
  • Now, it’s all up to your imagination, we tried to generate “a guitar shaped black shield.”

You’ll need to wait for the process to finish, it takes a while, honestly

Note: According to 3DFY.ai: “Generated model will be available on My Models page for 72 hours after generation.” We’ll update this post as soon as the final result is ready!

Update

We were graciously contacted by the esteemed VP R&D and Founder of 3DFY.ai, Tal Kenig, who conveyed the following message:

“Unfortunately, we detected an error in the creation of your 3D asset. Apologies! Our team is investigating this error at the moment. In the meanwhile, we returned the generation credit to your account and also added a download credit for you. We would love for you to try a slightly different prompt or a different seed.”

With renewed hope, we decided to embark on a more secure path, opting to present the following prompt: “A mushroom shaped table lamp”

And to be honest, results are not bad at all…

About 3DFY.ai

With a team comprising seven skilled professionals specializing in computer vision, graphics, AI, and machine learning, 3DFY.ai has made significant strides in its journey. Founded in 2019 by Dahan and Tal Kenig, the company has recently announced the successful acquisition of $3 million in funding through a pre-seed round.

In an email correspondence with GamesBeat, Dahan shared his insights by stating:

“[We] go way back and worked together for many years developing medical imaging technologies. As radiology veterans, we are 3D natives, so when we learned how much manual labor is involved in the production of computer graphics 3D assets, we immediately knew that’s where we want to make an impact. Ever since we started out, we are pursuing a clear vision: To make 3D model creation simple and easy for everyone, without compromising on quality. Somewhat similar to what Canva has done for graphic design. What you see now as the first version of 3DFY Prompt is just the tip of the iceberg, as we are working on additional, unique functionality, materializing this vision one step at a time.”

When asked about the potential impact of AI on the employment of game developers, Dahan responded by stating:

“We think we will see a trend here, similar to other generative AI fields, where creators would require less technical prowess and more skills around creatively using the new capabilities. But in any matter, it will be humans working with machines.”
