The US government has lifted its export ban on Anthropic’s Mythos 5 and Fable 5 AI models. This decision allows the company to restore access to its AI models for customers after previously being mandated to suspend foreign nationals’ access to these systems.

In compliance with the government’s directive, Anthropic had blocked access to Mythos and Fable. The company announced on X that it intends to start restoring access to its AI models on July 1, following permission from the Department of Commerce.

We’ve received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

We'll begin restoring access tomorrow, and will share an update soon.

We’re grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on…

Recently, Anthropic received government authorization to redeploy Mythos 5 to specific US organizations involved in critical infrastructure. Reports indicate that this rollout will provide approximately 100 organizations with access to Mythos 5, particularly for the Project Glasswing cybersecurity initiative.

The status of Fable remained uncertain until the ban was lifted. According to the Financial Times, Commerce Department Secretary Howard Lutnick communicated that the ban on Fable was lifted after Anthropic agreed to proactively address security risks related to the models.

Restrictions on both Mythos and Fable were imposed following concerns voiced by Amazon and other companies regarding potential vulnerabilities and misuse of the models. Anthropic defended its AI offerings by outlining the safeguards implemented to prevent misuse during the period when access was blocked.
