Samsung and Google have unveiled details about their upcoming Android XR smartglasses at Google I/O 2026. The smartglasses were developed in collaboration with traditional eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
This latest announcement follows a partnership established last year between Google and Samsung to create a new line of smartglasses. The devices are designed to serve as companion gadgets, utilizing the processing capabilities of a user’s phone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. They are expected to offer features including navigation assistance, access to notifications, real-time speech and text translation, and voice controls powered by Google’s Gemini.
The smartglasses are intended to enable users to keep their phones in their pockets while staying engaged with their environment. The first generation of glasses will be audio-only, lacking built-in displays. Instead, they will utilize onboard speakers, voice controls, and cameras to interact with apps and execute tasks.
There are two distinct designs for the smartglasses: one from Gentle Monster, which offers a “disruptive yet refined aesthetic,” and another from Warby Parker, featuring a more traditional look. This design approach aims to attract both mainstream consumers and tech enthusiasts.
Although the exact pricing and specifications have not yet been confirmed, the smartglasses are expected to be available for purchase later this fall in select markets.
