Valve reconfirms: Steam Machine to ship in 2026 despite shortages

Following a brief period of uncertainty caused by a "Steam Year in Review 2025" blog post, Valve updated its messaging to confirm all three hardware products will ship this year.

Valve recommitted to a 2026 launch for the Steam Machine following concerns raised by ambiguous language in a recent blog post.

The company stated that supply chain constraints and a global memory shortage could impact the hardware’s availability and pricing. The development confirms Valve’s timeline for releasing a console-like mini PC alongside new virtual reality and controller accessories.

Valve initially posted that it “hopes to ship the Steam Machine in 2026,” a phrasing that prompted speculation regarding potential delays. The company later updated the blog post to explicitly confirm a 2026 arrival for the hardware. Kaci Aitchison Boyle, a Valve PR representative, told The Verge that “nothing has actually changed” regarding the launch schedule. The updated blog post also commits to a 2026 release for the Steam Frame wireless VR headset and the Steam Controller accessory.

The original goal of launching hardware before the end of March 2026 now appears unlikely to be met. Valve indicated last month that it would revisit shipping schedules and pricing plans. The company stated that more updates will be shared as plans are finalized.

The ongoing RAM shortage, driven by AI data center demand, is affecting hardware makers. Valve admitted that memory supply chain restrictions are impacting Steam Deck OLED stock levels. The Steam Machine is confirmed to include 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM based on previously released specifications.

Valve previously announced that it would “revisit” its shipping schedule and pricing plans. The company confirmed that the Steam Machine will launch in 2026 alongside the Steam Frame headset and Steam Controller.
