Sony will reportedly reverse its strategy of releasing first-party PlayStation 5 games on PC, according to a Bloomberg report.
The shift suggests upcoming high-profile single-player titles like “Ghost of Yotei” and “Saros” will launch exclusively on PS5.
Sony began releasing its first-party games on PC in 2020, starting with “Horizon Zero Dawn.” Other titles, including “The Last of Us Part I,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” “God of War Ragnarök,” and the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” games, followed.
Anonymous sources told Bloomberg that Sony-published online games such as “Marvel Tokon” and “Marathon” will maintain their planned multi-platform releases. Hideo Kojima’s “Death Stranding 2,” a PS5 exclusive last year, is still scheduled for a PC release in 2026.
Reasons for the strategic change likely include poor sales performance of PS5 games on PC, where ports typically arrive at least a year after console launch. This contrasts with Microsoft’s approach of simultaneous releases for titles like “Fable” and “Forza Horizon 6” across Xbox, PC, and PS5.
PlayStation insiders also expressed concerns to Bloomberg that PC releases could harm the PlayStation brand and future console sales. Schreier noted that Sony may be preempting a future Xbox console running Windows, which could enable Xbox users to play PC versions of PlayStation games.
