NVIDIA fixes Disney+ and Xbox remote bugs in latest Shield TV update

The update focuses on "quality of life" stability, specifically fixing a persistent playback error in the Disney+ app and connectivity issues for third-party Xbox remotes.

NVIDIA released Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2.4 for its Shield and Shield Pro devices, marking the first substantial update in nearly a year. The rollout prioritizes critical security patches and bug fixes over introducing new functionality. The update brings the system’s security patch level to January 2026. It addresses several specific technical issues that users have reported. These include a playback error within the Disney+ application and connectivity problems for third-party Xbox remotes following sleep mode activation.

The release also resolves a crash that inadvertently woke the Shield and connected CEC devices from sleep mode. Engineers fixed a frequent disconnection issue affecting third-party Bluetooth remotes and a bug that caused the Settings application to close when triggering the NVIDIA Share overlay. Andrew Bell, NVIDIA’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, discussed the platform’s trajectory in a recent interview with ArsTechnica. Bell confirmed the company has no plans to conclude support for the hardware, noting that internal teams have “played with new concepts” regarding future iterations.

Bell indicated that a potential first hardware refresh since 2019 would prioritize modern media standards. Such a release would likely support the AV1 codec, HDR10+, and updated Dolby Vision profiles. The current Shield Android TV Pro maintains its status as a leading streaming device for gaming audiences. It provides native 4K streaming and utilizes proprietary technology to effectively upscale lower-resolution content. NVIDIA’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service continues to expand, further cementing the Shield’s unique integration within the PC gaming ecosystem.
