Apple is reportedly planning a strategic shift for its next major operating system update, iOS 27, prioritizing system stability and performance refinement over the introduction of flashy new features.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, the tech giant aims to replicate the strategy used for the 2009 Mac OS X Snow Leopard release, which focused on “under-the-hood” improvements rather than visual changes. Engineering teams are currently combing through the software to remove bloat, fix bugs, and significantly boost underlying performance.
This move follows the release of iOS 26, which brought the major “Liquid Glass” design overhaul, and the staggered rollout of Apple Intelligence features.
Despite the focus on refinement, Apple plans to continue expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities. The report indicates the company is working on an overhaul of Apple Intelligence, a new AI-based web search tool, and deeper integration of AI across its apps. The long-awaited, smarter version of Siri is expected to arrive before iOS 27, likely launching with the iOS 26.4 update this coming spring.
