DataShapes AI grabs Pentagon vet for big partner hires

Prior to her role at DIU, Cuellar coordinated public-private partnerships across 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries.

DataShapes AI has tapped Sarah Cuellar, previously a Deputy Director at the Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), as its new Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, effective immediately. She will lead partnership development to propel the company’s growth.

CEO of DataShapes AI, Logan D. Selby, emphasized that Cuellar’s experience with the DOD’s Defense Innovation Unit and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering will be invaluable in identifying partnerships and executing strategies for the company’s future. He also mentioned that her background will be instrumental in building relationships with industry stakeholders and the federal government.

During her tenure as Deputy Director for the Energy Portfolio at DIU, Cuellar managed over 25 energy projects with $383 million in funding. She also served as the Combatant Command Embed to United States Southern Command. Before DIU, Cuellar oversaw multiple projects with United States Southern Command, including Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstrations (JCTD), Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF), Rapid Reaction Technology Office (RRTO), and Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve (RDER), totaling over $175 million.

Prior to her role at DIU, Cuellar coordinated public-private partnerships across 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries. She also advised the Commander’s Action Group on partnerships with academia, service academies, and think tanks. Furthermore, she coordinated civil affairs operations as the Noncommissioned Officer in charge at United States Southern Command.

Cuellar holds a master’s degree in Global Risks and Political Affairs from Florida International University. She retired from the US Army Reserve in 2024 after two decades of service.

DataShapes AI delivers real-time electromagnetic spectrum insights for commercial and government use. Their software integrates with existing hardware, using analytics to derive actionable intelligence from signals, operating across various environments without requiring extensive infrastructure.
