Welcome Samsung TriFold series…

Samsung Electronics launched its first multi-folding smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, on Monday, introducing a new flagship device to the increasingly competitive foldable market.

The Galaxy Z TriFold will be available in South Korea starting December 12, followed by launches in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. The device is scheduled to reach the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2026. It ships in a single black model with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, priced at 3,594,000 South Korean won ($2,449).

As a revolutionary Samsung tri fold device, it utilizes two inward-folding hinges that open to a massive 10-inch display with a 2160 x 1584 resolution. When folded, the device is 12.9 millimeters thick. This is slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold6 (12.1 mm) and the Galaxy Z Fold7 (8.9 mm).

Liz Lee, associate director at Counterpoint Research, stated, “Samsung’s first tri-fold model will ship in very limited volume, but scale is not the objective.” She added that Samsung positions the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold as a multi-fold pilot to reinforce technology leadership, especially with Apple’s anticipated entry into the foldable segment in 2026. Lee noted the product aims to test durability, hinge design, and software performance while gathering user insights before wider commercialization.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features three foldable panels that support running three applications vertically side-by-side. It also offers a desktop-like mode without the need for an additional display. Additionally, this Samsung tri fold handset features the largest battery capacity among the company’s foldable models and includes super-fast charging, reaching 50% in just 30 minutes.

TM Roh, co-CEO of Samsung Electronics and head of the Device eXperience division, commented that the Galaxy Z TriFold represents extensive work on foldable designs. The device aims to balance portability, performance, and productivity. Samsung introduced its first foldable device in 2019, maintaining an early innovator role in the market.

New competitors have entered the foldable market, including Chinese brands that compete on price and dimension. In September, Huawei released its second-generation trifold phone for the Chinese market, measuring 12.8 mm thick when folded. This year, brands such as Honor have also launched foldable smartphones in international markets.

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold carries an IP48 rating, indicating water resistance up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, though it offers limited dust protection.
