Nintendo confirmed it will launch a version of the Switch 2 with swappable batteries for the European market in 2027. This release is part of the company’s initiative to comply with the 2023 EU “right-to-repair” policy, which mandates that certain appliances, including game consoles, must have easily replaceable batteries by February 18, 2027.
The new version will feature product model numbers beginning with “BEE,” which is the code prefix for the Switch 2. Consoles equipped with swappable batteries will have unique model numbers and the code “OSM” displayed on their packaging. These compliant consoles will be sold as separate products specifically for the EU market, and they are not expected to be available outside this region.
Nintendo did not address plans to release products with the “HAC” product code, suggesting a potential phase-out of the earlier Switch model. The original Switch 2 was released in 2025, featuring a larger screen, increased base storage, and improved performance.
As of now, the company has not disclosed the selling price or date for the new variant of the Switch 2. In May 2023, Nintendo increased the price of the original Switch 2 in the EU from €470 to €500, citing rising memory costs and market changes.
