Sony and Santa Monica Studio announced God of War: Laufey, featuring Fey, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, during a State of Play broadcast. The developers showcased nearly 20 minutes of gameplay footage, highlighting a new chapter in the series.
The game begins after Faye’s death, as she awakens in the realm of Everywhen following her funeral. She discovers that the plans she laid out to protect Kratos and Atreus are at risk. To defend her family, Faye must traverse the afterlife of the gods.
Everywhen is a unique world where various mythologies converge, with gods and magical beings vying for dominance. Faye will encounter new allies and adversaries, including deities Sekhmet and Begze.
The combat system revealed in the demo is notably faster than previous installments. Faye wields a sword, combines aerial and ground attacks, and utilizes magical abilities. The development team aimed to integrate the mobility and dynamics of both the classic Greek era games and the approaches found in God of War (2018) and Ragnarök.
Phranque, a space cube voiced by Jack Quaid, will accompany Faye on her journey. Additionally, another companion named Rue, a magical ribbon, protects Faye’s sword.
Santa Monica Studio is developing the game under the creative direction of Corey Barlog. Actress Deborah Ann Wall reprises her role as Faye from God of War Ragnarök.
God of War: Laufey does not yet have a release date and will be exclusive to PlayStation 5.
