Valve has opened reservations for the Steam Machine, starting at $1,049 for a 512GB variantwithout the new Steam Controller. A bundle with the controller is priced at $1,128, offering a $21 discount on the peripheral, which usually retails for $99. Customers who order the controller separately may face a delivery delay until 2027 as Valve prioritizes bundling with the Steam Machine.

The Steam Machine also provides a 2TB storage option at a standalone price of $1,349 or $1,428 when bundled with a controller. The 2TB configuration features alternate red fabric and solid walnut faceplates.

Valve is implementing a lottery system for those wishing to purchase the first batch of Steam Machines. Participants must have a Steam account in good standing and a purchase history on the platform prior to April 27. This approach aims to prevent scalpers from acquiring the device.

Signups for the lottery are open until 1 PM ET on June 25. Valve will randomize entries to determine reservation and waitlist status, with notifications scheduled for June 29. Those in the reservation queue will receive purchase options first, while waitlisted individuals will have an opportunity to buy later.

“We underestimated customer interest when we recently released the new Steam Controller, and we wanted to create a system that would be less frustrating and more fair for everyone,” Valve stated in a blog post. The company explained that a fixed launch time can unfairly benefit bots and those with faster internet connections.

Valve is maintaining separate reservation lists for North America, the United Kingdom/EU, and Australia. Sales in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be managed by Komodo, and Valve confirmed that the Steam Machine will not ship to South Korea.

All Steam Machine configurations share identical specifications, which include a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU, AMD RDNA3 GPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. The system also supports expandable storage via a microSD card slot, along with connectivity through USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C port, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, Bluetooth 5.3, and Wi-Fi 6E.

The Steam Machine is housed in a cube measuring around six inches on each side. Details regarding the availability of the Steam Frame remain undisclosed, although it is expected to arrive in the summer.
