Analysts at Embracer Group suggest that rising component costs and current market conditions may delay the release of PlayStation 6 until 2028 or 2029. In contrast, Kepler_L2 rejected the possibility of such a delay without providing direct commentary on the Embracer report.
Kepler_L2 argues that it does not seem logical for Sony to postpone the console at this stage. The firm states that Sony has likely completed much of its production planning for the next-generation system and has established agreements with TSMC for APU production while significantly investing in R&D.
The analysts emphasize that delaying the near-ready platform by several years could be detrimental to Sony in terms of both cost and scheduling. They predict that amid a slowdown in PS5 sales, launching the new hardware in 2027 would be a more strategic move for Sony.
A release in 2027 would allow Sony to enter the market earlier, securing the opportunity for millions of sales even if memory prices decline in the future. Conversely, a timeline extending toward 2030 could indicate a late start for Sony with its next generation of consoles.
As of now, Sony has not made any official announcement regarding the release schedule. Recent leaks suggest that expectations for a significant delay of the PlayStation 6 to 2028 or 2029 may be somewhat exaggerated.
