Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 may face delays, according to a leak from Korean leaker Lanzuk (yeux1122). The leaker indicated that the redesigned device is encountering “recent issues such as costs” that could postpone its originally planned release.
The report also suggests that Samsung’s highly anticipated slidable smartphone could arrive sooner than expected. The leaker did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the cost issues or the potential timeframe for the delay.
Samsung is reportedly working on a new hinge design for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, aiming to make the phone thinner and lighter. The current model measures 12.9mm thick and weighs 309g, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 8.9mm thick and weighs 215g. A more compact design could enhance the device’s portability and usability.
According to previous claims, the redesign seeks to standardize the thickness of hinge components, making a significant improvement to the device’s bulkiness. These updates are critical as Samsung aims for a competitive edge in the foldable phone market.
Additionally, the slidable smartphone is expected to debut in the first half of 2028, utilizing a rollable OLED panel from Samsung Display. Unlike foldable phones, a slidable device would expand by pulling part of its display out from inside the chassis.
Samsung Display has showcased various rollable display concepts but has not yet released a commercial product. Both the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and the slidable smartphone rumors remain unconfirmed by Samsung, making it essential to treat such claims cautiously.
If the rumors are validated, Samsung may be shifting its focus to launch the slidable device before the TriFold 2.
