Spotify is reportedly preparing to introduce features that would allow users to change their usernames and add profile bios, according to code unearthed by Android Authority. The username change feature would permit users to edit their Spotify username twice within 14 days.
Additionally, the potential implementation of profile bios would give users more control over their profiles, which have until now only permitted bios for artist pages. This feature would allow users to curate their musical identity and specify privacy settings regarding who can view their bios.
Despite these anticipated enhancements, some users express the need for significant improvements to the Messages and Listening Stats features. Spotify launched the Messages function in August 2025, allowing users to send direct messages for music recommendations. However, there are reported issues with notification reliability, affecting users’ ability to communicate effectively.
Furthermore, the Listening Stats feature enables users to track their weekly listening habits and compare them with friends. To view friends’ stats, however, users must invite them, rather than having followers automatically added, which has presented issues for some when trying to connect.
Android Authority’s findings sparked excitement among Spotify users who have long sought more profile customization options. Although these updates may signal a shift toward a more social platform interface, many agree that the fundamental issues with existing features need urgent attention.
