Lexar unveiled its AI Storage Core vision at COMPUTEX 2026, featuring a series of AI-aware storage solutions tailored for local AI workloads, AI PCs, and high-performance computing. The company emphasized that as AI tasks increasingly shift from the cloud to local devices, robust storage solutions will become essential to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
The firm highlighted its collaboration with ASUS, showcasing technologies that include high-performance SSDs and innovative hardware-software integrations. Lexar’s new offerings address challenges faced in edge AI inference, including managing immense model sizes and maintaining low latency during data access.
Central to Lexar’s strategy is its advanced 5nm Gen5 Storage Processing Unit (SPU), noted for its DRAM-less architecture, which enhances performance while improving supply stability. Lexar’s Intelligent Scheduling engine is designed to optimize data handling by significantly enhancing storage efficiency and reducing the need for DRAM by roughly 40%.
Among the new products, the NM1090 PRO 8TB PCIe Gen5 SSD stands out, delivering read speeds of up to 14,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s. This SSD supports extensive local AI applications and is suitable for high-resolution media projects.
Additionally, Lexar introduced its next-generation AI-grade Gen5 SSD and Gen5 Storage Stick concepts, which aim to provide bandwidth up to 11GB/s. These innovations are designed to accommodate compact AI devices that require larger local model storage and improved performance capabilities.
The PLAY X PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD, showcased alongside ASUS’s ROG XBOX ALLY, offers speeds reaching 7,400 MB/s for read operations and 6,500 MB/s for write operations. This SSD is now available through select retail partners across Europe and Asia-Pacific, including Amazon and Tsukumo.
Lexar continues to build its ecosystem within the AI storage market, looking forward to potential commercial opportunities in edge AI as use cases become more robust. The company is committed to expanding partnerships to enhance its AI Storage Core offerings, demonstrating its shift toward AI-aware storage solutions.
Visitors at COMPUTEX 2026 can explore Lexar’s latest innovations at Booth No. R1006, Hall 2, 4F, from June 2 to June 5.
