YouTube announced the launch of new AI-powered search features at Google I/O, enabling users to ask conversational questions to locate specific video content on the platform. The feature, named Ask YouTube, will aggregate relevant videos, including both short- and long-form content, based on user queries.
Users will be able to further refine their search results through follow-up questions. Ask YouTube will also include brief text summaries that provide insight into whether a video addresses the user’s query. This feature is currently accessible to YouTube Premium members in the United States via the YouTube Labs page.

Alongside Ask YouTube, YouTube is integrating the Gemini Omni technology into its Create app and YouTube Shorts Remix. Gemini Omni can generate videos from various inputs, including images, audio, video, and text, with a primary focus on video generation.
With the new Remix feature, users can modify YouTube Shorts by adding prompts and images while preserving the original video’s context. Creators of original Shorts will have the option to opt out of permitting visual remixes of their content.
Google stated that Gemini Omni will “better understand user intent,” which the company claims will lead to more consistent search results. The integration of these features is rolling out concurrently with the Ask YouTube launch.
