Valve will open reservations on May 8 for the second wave of Steam Controllers, implementing a reservation system after the first batch sold out within a day. The new approach aims to prevent automated purchases by bots or resellers, ensuring that more genuine customers obtain the gamepad.
The reservation queue opens at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT. Each user will be limited to one controller, and those who previously purchased a Steam Controller will not be able to acquire another during this round. Customers will be processed in the order of the queue and must complete their purchases within 72 hours of being contacted.
This sales method for the Steam Controller may indicate Valve’s strategy for future product launches, including the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR. Valve’s adherence to this system is expected to mitigate complications often seen during high-demand product releases.
