Perplexity has launched its Personal Computer AI assistant for all Mac users, expanding access beyond the previous requirement of a $200 per month Max subscription. The new macOS app allows users to perform everyday queries, manage attachments, and dictate text.
Usage of Personal Computer is limited by the credit allowances of Pro and Max plans, according to the company’s announcement. The assistant is capable of executing tasks across local files, various applications, the web, and its own servers.
Perplexity’s Personal Computer utilizes multiple models for specialized tasks. Gemini is employed for deep research, Nano Banana handles image processing, and ChatGPT is used for long-context recall and extensive searches. The assistant primarily operates in the cloud, which lessens the computing demands on Mac devices.
Users can keep Personal Computer running continuously on Mac mini devices, enabling remote control via iPhone. The company emphasized that the assistant’s actions are both auditable and reversible, providing a safeguard against accidental deletion of important files, including family photos.
