Disney senior executives are exploring the possibility of merging Disney+ with other applications, including Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line Navigator, to create a unified platform referred to internally as a “super app,” according to a report from Bloomberg.
These discussions are in the early stages, as Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro aims to streamline the customer experience across Disney’s various offerings. D’Amaro, who succeeded Bob Iger earlier this year, emphasized the importance of integrating Disney+ with the parks during Disney’s quarterly earnings call. “Disney+ becomes the primary relationship between Disney and its fans, the place where everything comes together,” D’Amaro stated.
This approach draws some parallels to Elon Musk’s vision for X, which aims to be an “everything app” similar to China’s WeChat. However, Disney’s plan focuses on consolidating its mobile platforms rather than expanding into messaging and payment services.
D’Amaro’s strategy may also aim to boost interest in Disney parks by appealing to Disney+ subscribers, who do not necessarily overlap with park visitors. Concerns have arisen that incorporating cruise advertisements into the Disney+ app could detract from the user experience for those primarily seeking streaming content.
