Apple Mac shipments rise 9.1% in first-quarter PC market rebound

A report from IDC reveals that the overall PC market experienced slight year-over-year shipment growth in the first quarter of 2026. Apple reported shipping 6.2 million Macs during this period, marking a 9.1% increase compared to the same quarter last year and raising its market share to 9.5%, up from 8.9%.

ASUS posted the largest growth among competitors with a 17.1% year-over-year increase, achieving a 7.2% market share. In the global ranking, Lenovo led with 16.5 million shipments and an 8.6% growth, while HP recorded 12.1 million shipments with a 4.9% decline. Dell followed closely with 10.3 million shipments and a 7.7% increase.

IDC’s report highlights that component shortages and deteriorating economic conditions are beginning to impact the PC market, leading to declining growth trends regionally. IDC expects further declines in PC shipments for the remainder of the year due to rising system prices.

The analysis also pointed out that the strength of each PC vendor’s supply chain will be critical in securing access to essential components. Demand is expected to favor vendors with effective procurement of memory and a product portfolio that covers all market price tiers.

Apple is facing limited availability across multiple Mac models, particularly those with higher RAM configurations and greater customization options. Some configurations of the Mac Studio are currently back-ordered by up to five months.

During its last earnings conference call, Apple maintained optimism about managing supply shortages but indicated that these shortages would have a more significant impact on its margins. Apple’s next earnings report is set for April 30, 2026, where component shortages are anticipated to be a primary discussion point.
