Amazon has begun rolling out software update 5.19.3.0.1 for supported Kindle devices, replacing the previously issued version 5.19.3, which was withdrawn due to significant bugs and performance issues.
The new update promises enhanced functionality, particularly in its support for USB-transferred PDFs. Sideloaded documents will now behave more like native Kindle files, featuring proper text selection, highlights, notes, and navigation capabilities.
Users of devices such as the Kindle Scribe can now write directly on PDFs. Additionally, color models of the Kindle will display sideloaded PDFs in color. This update is critical for users seeking improved PDF interaction on their Kindles.
Alongside PDF enhancements, the update includes general performance improvements and bug fixes. Version 5.19.3.0.1 is being installed automatically on supported devices via Wi-Fi, with users also having the option to manually download it from Amazon’s website.
This release follows feedback on the previous update, with users reporting that certain visible issues have been resolved. However, many remain apprehensive about potential new problems arising from this latest version. The company has not provided extensive details about the updates beyond those concerning PDF support and performance enhancements.
