Google is testing a new feature in its Gemini platform called “Projects,” aimed at allowing users to organize chats similarly to the folder system offered by ChatGPT. This feature is beginning to appear for some users, though it is currently not fully functional.
Since December, Google has been developing the “Projects” function to facilitate chat organization. The feature’s rollout is expected to enhance user experience for frequent chat users by providing a structured way to manage conversations.
TestingCatalog shared a screenshot on X, demonstrating the option to add a chat to a project within Gemini’s web interface. The interface includes a three-dot button that opens a menu with options such as “Share Conversation,” “Pin,” “Rename,” and “Delete,” alongside the new “Add to project” feature.
Looks like Google started preparing Projects on Gemini for the upcoming rollout. At this moment, it is likely an unintended appearance.

Clicking “Add to project” currently opens a pop-up where users can select from existing projects. However, the absence of a function to create new projects indicates that the feature is still under development.
No updates have been provided regarding the broader rollout of the “Projects” feature. Last month, code references suggested the possibility of renaming “Projects” to “Notebooks” to align with Google’s NotebookLM initiative. The recent appearance of this feature suggests that Google may be preparing for a wider release in the near future.
