Google Meet will allow viewers to download or copy video recordings by default starting April 30, 2026. Currently, recording owners must grant permission for downloads or copying, which disables certain functionalities.
This change is significant for users who need access to meeting recordings without requiring additional permissions. Users can share recordings more conveniently, enhancing collaboration and information sharing during remote interactions.
After April 30, all recordings made will enable viewers to download or copy unless manually restricted by the recording owner. Owners can disable this feature in the Admin console before the effective date by unchecking the “Let Users download and copy Meet Recordings” option.
Recordings made prior to the change will not be affected, preserving existing restrictions where downloads or copying are not permissible unless settings are modified. The update targets business, enterprise, and education accounts, but does not include general Google account users at this time.
