Instagram has introduced an update that allows users to rearrange carousel posts after publication. The new feature enables users to modify the order of images and videos within a carousel, enhancing their control over content presentation.
This update responds to user demand, as carousel re-ordering has been one of the most requested features. Many users have previously expressed frustration with the inability to alter the sequence of posts after sharing. The “long press and drag” functionality simplifies the rearrangement process, ensuring that users can adjust their content to better align with their creative vision.
Instagram emphasized the significance of carousel posts, indicating that they can enhance user engagement and performance on the platform. Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, highlighted in 2024 that carousel posts offer increased opportunities for user interaction, as they encourage longer viewing times and additional engagement. Buffer’s research from March 2025 revealed that carousel posts generate approximately 12% more engagement per post on average.
This update is expected to be positively received by both users and creators within the app, as it allows for greater flexibility in content management. By adopting this feature, creators can further experiment with their content displays, potentially boosting their overall performance and engagement metrics on the platform.
