eBay announced it will cut approximately 800 jobs, representing 6% of its full-time workforce. The company said the cuts are intended to reinvest across the business and align its structure with strategic priorities. Bloomberg first reported the news.
The layoffs occur one week after eBay reported fourth-quarter revenue of $3 billion, a 15% increase that exceeded analysts’ expectations. The company also announced a $1.2 billion cash acquisition of Depop, a secondhand clothing app popular with Gen Z and millennials.
eBay characterized the job reductions as a necessary step to support current business priorities. “We are taking steps to reinvest across our business and align our structure with our strategic priorities, which will affect certain roles across our workforce,” the company said in a statement.
The company expressed gratitude for the contributions of departing staff. “We are grateful for the contributions of the employees impacted and are committed to supporting them with care and respect,” eBay stated.
This round of layoffs marks the third time eBay has cut jobs in the past three years. In early 2024, the company cut 1,000 jobs, representing approximately 9% of its workforce. In early 2023, eBay laid off about 500 employees, accounting for roughly 4% of its headcount.
