Ryan Beiermeister, former vice president of product policy at OpenAI, was terminated in January. Her dismissal followed an accusation of sex discrimination made by a male colleague, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Ms. Beiermeister denied the discrimination allegation, stating it was “absolutely false.” OpenAI has not commented on the matter, nor has Ms. Beiermeister responded to an email inquiry.
The Journal’s report indicates that Ms. Beiermeister’s termination occurred after she criticized a planned ChatGPT feature named “adult mode.” This feature is intended to integrate erotica into the chatbot’s user experience. Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, responsible for consumer-facing products, has stated the feature is scheduled for release in the first quarter of this year.
Concerns were reportedly raised by Ms. Beiermeister and other OpenAI employees regarding the potential impact of the “adult” feature on specific users.
OpenAI stated that Ms. Beiermeister, who was fired after a leave of absence, “made valuable contributions during her time at OpenAI, and her departure was not related to any issue she raised while working at the company.”
Ms. Beiermeister’s professional background includes four years on Meta’s product team and over seven years at Palantir.
