Canon unveiled a Limited Edition PowerShot G7 X III compact camera to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of its PowerShot line, which launched in 1996 with a 0.5-megapixel sensor. The company also announced two new RF-mount full-frame lenses.

The PowerShot series began with that initial model equipped with a 0.5-megapixel sensor, contributing to the early adoption of digital photography by replacing film-based systems. Canon chose the G7 X III, released nearly seven years ago, for this anniversary edition. This compact camera remains in production and retains its core specifications from the original launch around 2018.

The Limited Edition version introduces a graphite color finish. It features a knurled front ring, which Canon described as designed to exude “luxury and quality.” A 30-year anniversary logo appears printed on the body, with Canon stating this addition serves “to create a special feeling suitable for limited edition models.” These changes distinguish it visually from the standard model while preserving all internal components and functionality.

The PowerShot G7 X III entered the market as one of the first cameras positioned specifically for vloggers. This targeting stemmed from its capability to record vertical video formatted for platforms like Instagram. The camera houses a 20.1-megapixel sensor paired with a flip-up 3-inch touchscreen that facilitates self-recording. Its 24-100mm equivalent f/1.8-2.8 zoom lens provides a versatile focal range from wide-angle to short telephoto, maintaining a bright maximum aperture throughout. A dedicated microphone input supports external audio capture for improved sound quality in videos.

Video recording options include 4K resolution at 30 frames per second without any sensor cropping, preserving the full field of view. It also captures 1080p video at 120 frames per second for slow-motion effects. Connectivity features enable direct streaming to YouTube over Wi-Fi, a capability that was novel at launch but has since become standard in many cameras. The original retail price stood at $749.

Supply constraints affected availability of the G7 X III for an extended period. Used units gained popularity among influencers several years ago, driving secondary market prices well above the original list price. In response, Canon announced increased production in August 2025. Stock returned a few months later with a price of $880.

The Limited Edition model carries a price tag of $1,299. It includes a limited edition Peak Design cuff wrist strap and a 32GB SD card. Shipping commences in April 2026.

Canon simultaneously revealed two RF-mount lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The RF 14mm f/1.4 L VCM prime lens costs $2,599 and delivers an ultra-wide-angle perspective with a fast f/1.4 aperture. The RF 7-14mm f/2.8-3.5 L Fisheye STM zoom lens prices at $1,899 and offers a fisheye effect, reaching up to 190 degrees of perspective at its widest 7mm setting.
