Apple plans to unveil a new version of Siri powered by Google’s Gemini models in the second half of February, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. This update enables task completion using users’ personal data and on-screen content, fulfilling promises Apple made in June 2024.
The forthcoming Siri iteration draws from the recently announced AI partnership between Apple and Google. Gurman states this release provides the first real look at partnership results. The assistant adopts a more conversational style, similar to chatbots like ChatGPT. It could operate directly on Google’s cloud infrastructure.
Apple schedules an even larger AI upgrade for announcement at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. This follows earlier indications that Apple encountered difficulties in advancing its AI strategy.
Gurman reports that over the summer, Apple’s Mike Rockwell informed foundation team members that one of Gurman’s prior reports was “bulls-t.” Rockwell serves in a key role within Apple’s AI efforts.
