Apple Wallet has expanded its support for digital IDs to Montana, marking the eleventh state where residents can add their state-issued identification to the application. This feature allows users to store a digital version of their driver’s license or state ID on their iPhone for use in various situations.

According to Apple, digital IDs stored in Apple Wallet can be used at select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints within numerous airports across the United States. In addition to airport security, these digital IDs are accepted at select businesses and venues. The acceptance of digital IDs at businesses may vary. Montana state officials have specified that residents using digital IDs in Apple Wallet must also carry their physical ID card.

Currently, ten other states and Puerto Rico support the integration of IDs within Apple Wallet. These include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. The expansion of digital ID support has been a gradual process, but Apple has stated intentions to include more states in the future. Four states—Connecticut, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Utah—have committed to integrating this feature. Arkansas and West Virginia are also anticipated to introduce support for digital IDs in Apple Wallet imminently.

The Apple Wallet application is scheduled to receive further enhancements with the release of iOS 26, expected in the fall. Upgrades include improved boarding pass functionality through Live Activities, which will provide real-time updates and information. The updated boarding pass will integrate airport maps and luggage tracking. Luggage tracking will utilize AirTags and the Find My application.

Beyond digital IDs, iOS 26 will enable users in the United States to store their passports within the Wallet app. The digital passport can be used for identification purposes at select TSA checkpoints, within applications, and in person. iOS 26 will also enhance order tracking capabilities in Apple Wallet and provide an easier method for accessing saved credit card details. New features will be introduced to Apple Pay, and users will gain greater control over promotional notification settings within the application.
