Adobe has unveiled new AI-powered features for Photoshop, leveraging its Firefly Image Models to streamline image editing and enhance creative workflows. This announcement follows the recent launch of a Photoshop application for Android devices, indicating a broader strategy to integrate advanced AI functionalities across its product ecosystem. The updates are designed to reduce the time spent on routine photo-editing tasks, allowing users to concentrate on more creative aspects of their projects.

The integration of generative AI such as ChatGPT and Gemini has demonstrated the potential for simplified image creation and photo editing. These tools have enabled users to achieve Photoshop-like results without requiring extensive technical expertise. The method involves using a text prompt, and the AI system then handles the image creation and editing processes automatically. Adobe’s response has been to invest further in AI, developing proprietary AI models specifically designed to augment its existing suite of creative tools.

Adobe’s Firefly AI models are now integral to the core functionality of its creative software, including Photoshop. The company’s response to the rise of AI has been to create its own models. The newest update to Photoshop has delivered AI functionalities. These tools will allow creators to focus on creative tasks.

A key addition to Photoshop is the Generative Upscale tool, which addresses the common issue of blurry or poorly focused images. Adobe identified this feature as a highly requested update from the Photoshop user community. The Generative Upscale tool employs AI algorithms to reduce blur and noise, resulting in sharper and more detailed images with minimal user intervention. The tool is available in beta and enhances images up to 8 megapixels. Generative Upscale polishes the entire photo, removing blur and noise simultaneously.

While Google Photos offers a similar capability through its Photo Unblur tool, Adobe’s implementation is intended to provide a more comprehensive solution within the Photoshop environment. The new AI tools are scheduled for release on Tuesday. Users can access Generative Upscale, Harmonize, the updated Remove tool, and the Projects feature through the Photoshop beta on desktop and web platforms, as well as the iPhone Photoshop application.

Beyond Generative Upscale, Adobe introduced Harmonize, a tool designed to seamlessly blend objects into photographs. This feature, previously showcased as Project Perfect Blend at Adobe Max last October, uses AI to analyze and match color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone, ensuring that the inserted object integrates naturally with the existing image. Harmonize ensures that objects introduced in photos blend believably.

The Remove tool has been enhanced with support for the latest Adobe Firefly Image model, available on both Photoshop desktop and web versions. This update provides increased precision and quality in removing unwanted elements from images. The improved Remove tool generates more realistic content for replacing removed elements, ensuring a more seamless integration with the surrounding background. The Remove tool generates more realistic content to replace the removed elements.

The inclusion of multiple Firefly models gives users a choice. Users can select between Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3 when utilizing Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools via the new Gen AI Model Picker. This flexibility allows users to tailor the AI processing to their specific needs and preferences.

To improve project management, Adobe introduced a Projects feature for the Photoshop desktop beta experience. This feature aims to provide a centralized and organized workspace for creative projects. The Projects feature creates a shared, organized space for each project, which is intended to improve productivity. It allows a single location for all files and assets. The single location helps in sharing work with others and collaborating on creative tasks.
