The Solana Foundation has released an ambitious long-term roadmap, outlining its strategy to position the Solana blockchain as the foundational layer for global “Internet Capital Markets” (ICMs) by 2027. The plan, detailed in a paper published Thursday, shifts focus beyond raw speed to address the complexities of market structure.
The roadmap defines ICMs as a “globally accessible ledger where entities, currencies, and cultures are tokenized,” enabling universal access to capital markets. To achieve this, Solana is targeting what it calls the “single most important problem in Solana today”: market microstructure.
The proposed solution is a new model called Application-Controlled Execution (ACE), designed to give smart contracts millisecond-level control over their own transaction ordering. This approach aims to create a more flexible and high-performance environment that diverges from the rigid structures of traditional finance.
Key milestones on the roadmap include:
- In the next three months: The launch of Jito’s Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM), a transaction processing system intended to enhance performance for validators and traders.
- By mid-September 2025: The full rollout of DoubleZero, a dedicated peer-to-peer fiber network designed to replace the public internet for critical Solana transactions, which is already in testnet.
These initiatives follow a recent network upgrade that increased block capacity by 20%, with further throughput enhancements planned before the end of 2025.
