Apple’s next iPhone SE might be announced as early as next week, with sales expected to begin later in February, according to Bloomberg. The new model’s leaked images and dwindling inventory of the current iPhone SE suggest an imminent launch.

New features and design of the iPhone SE 4

The upcoming iPhone SE is expected to resemble the iPhone 14, featuring a larger screen and replacing Touch ID with Face ID. The device will be powered by an A18 chip, which enables the integration of Apple Intelligence features. Additionally, it is set to be Apple’s first phone using an in-house cellular modem and will adopt a USB-C port, allowing it to comply with EU regulations.

According to Bloomberg, the new iPhone SE is projected to be priced at around $500, which is an increase from the current model’s starting price of $429. The updated phone is also reported to have a single rear camera.

Apple is reportedly not planning a formal launch event for the device but will instead make the announcement on its website. Inventory of the current iPhone SE has been notably low at Apple retail stores, with some models out of stock or delayed for shipping.

The existing iPhone SE was first introduced in 2016 as an entry-level smartphone but has become outdated. The new version will mark the complete phase-out of the home button, a feature that has been a defining characteristic of iPhones since 2007.

Sales of the iPhone have seen a decline, falling by 1% during the holiday quarter, leading Apple to focus on the new iPhone SE to stimulate growth. This new model could attract consumers in emerging markets, including China and India, where Apple aims to strengthen its foothold. The device, designated V59, will offer high-end features at a competitive price, although it is likely to still be priced higher than local alternatives.

Alongside the iPhone SE announcement, new PowerBeats Pro 2 earbuds are also expected to be introduced, featuring a built-in heart rate monitor. Other product updates planned for this year include a MacBook Air with the M4 chip, new low-end iPads, and updated iPad Air models, while inventory for some current models is decreasing in stores.
