Apple has recently purchased a hydroelectric power plant near one of its data centers in central Oregon. The plant, located in Prineville, will primarily be used to power things like iCloud and will be used to support a number of data centres across the country.
With the advent of Apple investing heavily in massive solar farms in North Carolina to power one of its data centres there, and their claims that 100% of the energy they use is from renewable resources, this foray into hydroelectric power should come as no real surprise.
The company is cutting out the middle man supplying the clean energy on which they run their data centres, and its only a matter of time before they become entirely self-sufficient.
