Valve has released the CAD files for the Steam Controller’s shell, allowing users to design and construct their own accessories. The design files are available for free download under a Creative Commons license. Users can utilize these files to create customized accessories for the Steam Controller and its puck.
However, the released files only cover the exterior of the device. They do not include any internal components, limiting users to modifications of the outer shell. Currently, the Steam Controller is out of stock, and Valve has not provided a specific restock date.
Additionally, Valve has not announced a release window for the Steam Machine or the Steam Frame VR headset. While the Steam Controller is recognized as a quality gamepad, its absence from the market makes it less essential for most gamers at this moment. Nonetheless, the availability of the shell design files offers an opportunity for creative expression in accessory design.
