Apple has released the first public beta for iOS 26.5, following its initial release for developers, introducing significant updates including a new feature in Apple Maps called “Suggested Places.”
The “Suggested Places” feature will display trending locations, such as restaurants, based on the user’s current location or search history. Users can access this feature by tapping the search bar in the Maps app, enhancing user experience by providing personalized suggestions.
Additionally, the iOS 26.5 beta will include notifications regarding advertisements that Apple plans to introduce within Maps. Apple confirmed in March its intention to expand ad placements beyond the App Store and Apple News apps. These ads will appear at the top of search results and within the Suggested Places section, tailored to the user’s location and search activity.
Apple stated that the advertisements will be clearly marked and assures users that their privacy will not be compromised. The company noted that users’ current locations and ad interactions will not be linked to their Apple Account, and personal data will remain on the device.
Moreover, Apple is testing end-to-end encryption for RCS messages on the iOS 26.5 beta version. However, the company has not confirmed whether this feature will be included in the stable release of the operating system.
To participate in Apple’s public beta testing, interested users must sign up on the Apple Beta Software Program website using their Apple credentials.
