Google announced a new feature allowing U.S. users to change their Gmail address while retaining access to their data. The rollout includes a “Change Google Account email” button for eligible users found in the Google Account settings under Personal info > Email.
This feature enables users to modify their username once every 12 months, while preventing deletion of the new address during that period. Users will retain their old emails, which will function as an alternate address, allowing sign-in to Google services using either email.
Initially, the rollout is also taking place in select Hindi-speaking regions, as reported by 9to5Google, highlighting the feature’s gradual availability. The company noted that not all users may have immediate access.
Google emphasized the importance of this change for user flexibility, aiming to enhance the email experience without compromising data integrity. The support page specifies that the feature is being implemented in stages, with further accessibility updates expected.
