Google announced new gaming-focused updates to Google Play at the Game Developers Conference on Wednesday.
The updates position the platform as a unified hub for mobile and PC gaming, allowing users to try games before purchase and sync progress across devices. This move aims to compete with established PC storefronts by integrating game discovery, community features, and cross-platform play within a single ecosystem.
Google is expanding its library to include more paid games over the coming months. Specific titles announced include Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft, and Low-Budget Repairs. These games will be playable on both mobile and PC through Google Play Games, with Gamer Profile syncing progress across devices.
The company is launching game trials to help users decide whether to buy a title. Trials are rolling out soon to select paid games on mobile and will arrive on Google Play Games for PC in the future. Users can purchase a game after a trial and continue from their saved progress.
Google Play is introducing a “buy once, play anywhere” pricing model. This update is rolling out on select paid games, including the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler. A single purchase grants users access to both the mobile and PC versions of a game.

A new PC section is being added to the Play Store’s Games tab. This section serves as a dedicated hub for titles optimized for Windows PCs. Users can also add games to a wishlist and receive alerts when they go on sale.
Community Posts are now available in English for select popular games. Google stated that more languages and games will receive the feature soon. The company hopes players will use the app store to chat about games, a function currently served by platforms like Reddit.
Google is bringing Play Games Sidekick to select paid games. This AI-powered in-game overlay provides real-time assistance from Gemini Live. The feature was originally announced last year.
These announcements follow a redesigned Play Games experience launched six months ago. That update introduced a new Games tab, Play Games Leagues, a revamped Apps tab, and a tab highlighting user interests. It also launched Gemini-powered features, including a “Guided Search” function.
