Apple launched the Studio Display and the 27-inch Studio Display XDR, a higher-end model aimed at content creators.

The Studio Display XDR replaces the nearly seven-year-old 32-inch 6K Pro XDR Display, which is no longer for sale on Apple’s website. The new model targets professionals requiring higher brightness and refresh rates for HDR video editing and medical displays. Pre-orders for the Studio Display XDR begin at $3,299.

The Studio Display XDR features a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display with a mini-LED panel. It includes over 2,000 dimming zones, up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness, and a wider color gamut. The display offers 1,000 nits SDR brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 80 percent Rec.2020 coverage.

The new model includes a 120Hz refresh rate, addressing previous complaints about the 60Hz refresh rate of older models. It comes standard with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand, offering a height range of 105mm. The display also supports Adaptive Sync.

The Studio Display XDR includes a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support. It features Thunderbolt 5 connectivity with a second port for accessories or daisy-chaining. The unit acts as a Thunderbolt hub with up to 140W of charging power, sufficient for a 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple also announced a new version of the standard Studio Display. It features a 27-inch 5K Retina display with up to 600 nits of brightness and P3 wide color. The standard model includes an improved 12MP Center Stage camera, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.

The standard Studio Display supports Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and offers up to 96W of charging power. It comes with a tilt-adjustable stand, with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand available for an additional $400. The nano-texture glass option costs $300.

The new Studio Display goes on pre-order on March 4 starting at $1,599. This price excludes the nano-texture glass and height-adjustable stand. Apple stated the Studio Display XDR is available for pre-order starting at $3,299.
