Nex Computer’s NexPhone, a smartphone designed to operate with Android 16, Debian Linux, and Windows 11, targets a Q3 2026 shipment date for $549. The device aims to serve as a primary computing unit, supporting mobile and desktop environments for all three operating systems.
The NexPhone’s multi-OS capability includes a custom tile-based UI for Windows 11 and the ability to launch Debian as an application. While Android and Linux share a file system, Windows 11 operates on a separate partition. This flexibility extends to desktop use, offering Android Desktop Mode, the full Debian desktop interface, and the Windows 11 desktop UI when connected to external peripherals.
Hardware specifications for the NexPhone include a 6.58-inch, 120Hz LCD screen with a 1,080 × 2,403 resolution, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage with microSD expansion. The device features a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP front-facing camera. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports wireless charging. The integrated Qualcomm QCM6490 system-on-chip, also used in the Fairphone 5, is primarily designed for IoT applications. Reservations for the NexPhone are available for $199, with the remaining $350 due at shipment; the reservation fee is fully refundable.
