Epic Games down: AWS outage causes “request could not be completed”

The outage, which began this morning around 8 AM UK time (midnight PT), is centered on Amazon's critical North Virginia data center (US-EAST-1). Amazon has confirmed it is experiencing "increased error rates and latencies" with core services that power a huge portion of the internet.

If you’re trying to log in to the Epic Games Store or play games like Fortnite and Rocket League, you’re likely seeing an error message stating “request could not be completed.” You’re not alone, and the problem isn’t with your computer.

The Epic Games Store and its entire portfolio of games are currently down or experiencing major issues due to a widespread outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The outage, which began this morning around 8 AM UK time (midnight PT), is centered on Amazon’s critical North Virginia data center (US-EAST-1). Amazon has confirmed it is experiencing “increased error rates and latencies” with core services that power a huge portion of the internet.

Inside the AWS outage: How one failure rippled across the global economy

Because Epic Games relies heavily on AWS infrastructure to run its launcher, manage logins, and host game servers, the Amazon outage has taken its services completely offline for many users. The “request could not beF completed” error is a direct result of the Epic Games launcher being unable to connect to the AWS servers it needs to operate.

Downdetector, a website that tracks service interruptions, shows a massive spike in user reports for the Epic Games Store, Fortnite, and Rocket League, all occurring at the same time as the AWS failure.

This outage is not limited to Epic Games. Dozens of other major online services are also down, including:

  • Snapchat
  • Roblox
  • Amazon’s own services (Ring, Alexa, Prime Video)
  • Duolingo
  • Canva
  • Coinbase
  • Venmo

Amazon is actively working to resolve the issue in its North Virginia facility, but as of now, there is no estimated time for when services will be fully restored. Until Amazon fixes its servers, the Epic Games Store and its related games will likely remain inaccessible.
