Amazon has enhanced Fire TV’s accessibility with new features aimed at users with disabilities. The rollout includes Dual Audio, expanded support for additional hearing aids, and tactile QR codes to assist visually impaired customers.
Amazon enhances Fire TV accessibility for users with disabilities
Amazon’s latest update introduces the Dual Audio feature, which allows simultaneous audio output from both Fire TV’s built-in speakers and compatible hearing aids. This enhancement marks the first time users with ASHA-enabled hearing aids can enjoy streaming content alongside others in the same room. The Dual Audio feature will first be available on the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series and roll out to other devices in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the expansion of ASHA support to all Widex Moment behind-the-ear (BTE) and receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids enables even more users to access direct audio streaming from their Fire TVs. The ASHA compatibility now spans a range of devices, including the Fire TV Omni QLED Series, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV 2-Series, among others. Users can engage these features by navigating to Settings, selecting Accessibility, and enabling Dual Audio.
The setup process for pairing hearing aids has also been streamlined. Users can now go to the Accessibility menu, select the Hearing Aids section, and choose “Add Hearing Aids” for pairing.
To further support customers who are blind or have low vision, Amazon is introducing tactile QR codes with raised dots in product packaging. Users can locate these codes by touch, allowing them to scan and access a quick start guide that includes vital information on accessibility features. This initiative is crucial in ensuring that visually impaired users can easily get started with their devices. This tactile code system will be implemented across more devices over time.
Amid these enhancements, Amazon has also focused on sustainability. The company plans to utilize packaging made with 30 percent more recycled fiber and significantly reduce ink usage, aiming for a more eco-friendly approach to product delivery.
