Apple has released iOS 27 beta 3, enabling developers to customize Siri’s speaking pace and expressivity. The voice controls for “Pace” and “Expressivity” have transitioned from “Coming soon” to active features. This update is part of Apple’s initiative to enhance Siri’s naturalness and personalization through generative AI.
User customization is critical in voice AI technology. ChatGPT, for example, introduced voice customization options in December 2025, allowing users to manipulate warmth and enthusiasm and adjust styles to be friendly, professional, candid, or quirky. These adjustments influence the tone and presentation of information.
Siri’s voice customization features were first presented at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, providing users the ability to select from various voices beyond traditional male or female options. Beta testers can now choose from multiple accents and utilize sliders to adjust speech speed and emotional expression.
As users make adjustments, Siri demonstrates its capabilities by practicing phrases such as “You have one new message” to illustrate the different voices. The updated Siri is integrated throughout iOS, allowing iPhone users to initiate conversations in multiple ways including speaking, swiping, typing, or using a new standalone Siri app.
iOS 27 beta 3 also includes minor updates like a new Reminders app icon. Some users have reported losing access to Siri or encountering data reindexing following the update, a process typical for optimizing Siri’s AI for search functionality.
