Sensitive details regarding Apple’s manufacturing processes were revealed in a recent data leak at Tata Electronics, a key supplier. The leak reportedly involved documents posted on “the dark web,” which included specific information about components and suppliers for the iPhone 18 Pro. It detailed hundreds of parts, including chips on the main circuit board and elements of the smartphone’s battery and cameras, according to Reuters.
Last week, AppleInsider reported that a cyberattack resulted in the theft of over 630GB of data from Tata Electronics. Other clients affected by the breach included Tesla and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., but the majority of the leaked information focused on Apple.
Tata Electronics has become one of Apple’s most prominent suppliers outside of China. Apple stated it is working on long-term security measures with Tata and is investigating the incident. The disclosure of supplier relations could impact Apple’s future negotiations, especially as the company faces RAM shortages that lead to higher product prices.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and potentially its first foldable smartphone in the upcoming fall season.
